Spreedly review: products, technology and pricing (2026)

Spreedly is a payments orchestration platform built around a PCI-compliant card vault, with connections to well over 100 gateways and a visual workflow tool called Composer. It says it is not a payment processor or gateway and does not hold merchants' funds.

Spreedly is a payments orchestration platform that started as a secure card vault and now connects merchants to a large catalogue of gateways, fraud tools and payment methods through one API. Its core idea, described in its developer documentation as universal tokenisation, is that a card stored once can be used with many endpoints without the card data touching the merchant's own servers.

How the platform works

The merchant integrates once with Spreedly. Payment details are collected through Spreedly's iFrame, web or mobile checkout SDKs, or by a direct API call, and are exchanged for a token. When the merchant wants to take a payment, it sends that token and normalised fields (amount, currency, customer, order and risk data) to a single transactions endpoint, and Spreedly passes the request to the chosen gateway or service. Our payment orchestration guide describes the wider model.

Details from the developer documentation:

  • Transaction calls. Purchase authorises and captures in one request. Authorize, capture, void and credit are separate calls, and Verify checks whether a card is chargeable by running an authorisation followed by a void, typically for US$1.
  • Workflows. The workflow chosen in a low code interface decides how each transaction is processed. A request can name a workflow key or fall back to a default workflow.
  • Retention. A payment method can be retained on a successful transaction, which makes it reusable across gateways. By default the CVV is deleted straight after the transaction runs.

Background on why tokens matter is in our guide to payment vaults and tokenisation.

Products

Spreedly's orchestration page names five modules.

Vault

A vault holding card and other payment credentials, with configurable access and retention rules. The Advanced Vault, announced on 6 June 2023, added lifecycle management with several account updater services, network tokenisation where available, and rules based management of stored credentials. The pricing page now lists an Independent Vault for businesses that want the vault without the wider platform. The news page records a standalone vault launch on 15 July 2026.

Connect

Connect covers gateway connections, normalised data and supported methods such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and ACH. The pricing page cites 150+ gateway connections, 60+ payment methods and 32+ fraud and risk solutions (page copyright 2026). An older figure on the orchestration page reads 140+ integrations and is undated, so the pricing page figure is the more recent of the two.

Protect, Optimize and Resolve

Protect covers fraud prevention and Spreedly 3DS2 (the company says its 3DS2 product is EMVCo certified, including mobile SDKs; see our 3-D Secure explainer). Optimize covers transaction routing and Recover, a retry feature. Resolve covers monitoring.

Composer

Composer, announced on 21 October 2026, is a visual canvas where teams place gateways, fraud tools and identity checks, set routing rules and failover, split traffic between two paths to compare authorisation rate and cost, and publish the flow. Example flows on the page include running a fraud check before triggering 3-D Secure only above a risk threshold, and moving to a secondary gateway if the primary declines or times out, using the same stored credential. Spreedly's Dodgeball acquisition (15 September 2025) brought fraud orchestration into the same workflow engine.

Developer experience and integrations

The documentation is organised by function: onboarding and an implementation guide (environments, gateways, receivers, collection and transactions), tokenisation options, the vault, Connect, Protect, Optimize and Composer, with client and server SDKs. The docs also mention an MCP route for AI and LLM integration and a published list of supported gateways. Requests can use JSON or XML. The pricing page also lists agentic commerce tooling under performance optimisation, and a 4 March 2026 news item says Spreedly made agentic commerce a live channel for merchants.

Payment methods, currencies and coverage

Spreedly says it works worldwide through its gateway catalogue, and the About page refers to activity in 100+ countries, though its live statistics counters did not render when we opened it, so we cannot give exact figures. The orchestration page lists scale claims (US$50bn+ in gross merchandise volume enabled, 1bn+ payment methods secured) without dates. In June 2023 Spreedly said customers used its tokens to support over US$45bn of annual transaction volume.

Recent partnerships show where coverage is growing:

Date Partner What the company says
23 Feb 2026 Paysafe Paysafe added as acquirer for card payments in Europe, North America and other markets; wallets such as Skrill and Neteller planned for a later phase
11 Mar 2026 Kushki Latin America partnership (title only on the news page)

Pricing model

Spreedly publishes limited pricing. The Independent Vault starts at US$750 per month and includes unlimited storage and token ownership (pricing page, copyright 2026, no effective date). Performance optimisation has no published price and requires contacting sales. Per transaction fees, volume tiers and contract terms are not published. The 2023 Advanced Vault release described a tiered monthly fee per stored credential.

Regulation in brief

Spreedly's Terms of Service say it is not a payment processor and not a payment gateway, and that it does not receive or control funds sent in connection with transactions. It describes itself as a PCI DSS Level 1 service provider assessed annually by a Qualified Security Assessor, and its security page lists SOC 2 Type 2 and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework participation. See legal.spreedly.com and our guide to how to check a financial licence. Merchants should confirm the licensing of the gateways and acquirers they connect.

Who it tends to suit

Spreedly is commonly used by merchants, marketplaces and software platforms that want to keep ownership of their stored credentials and route across many gateways. Teams that mainly need a vault may look at the independent vault; those wanting fraud and payment logic in one canvas may look at Composer. Alternatives with a different emphasis include Gr4vy and Primer; see Gr4vy vs Spreedly and Spreedly vs Primer. The gateways hub lists related profiles.
