Worldline is a European payments company that provides merchant acquiring, online payment gateways and in-store terminals to businesses, and card and instant-payment processing to banks. It is headquartered in the Paris area, is listed on Euronext as WLN, and describes itself as having more than 1.2 million customers.
Its technology is organised around two main business lines after a 2026 portfolio change: Merchant Services and Financial Services. Merchants can reach it through hosted pages, server-to-server APIs and a growing set of platform products such as One Commerce and Global Collect.

How the platform works
On the merchant side, Worldline acts as acquirer, gateway and terminal provider under one agreement, according to its acquiring page. A payment from a shop, website or app passes through authorisation, capture, routing, fraud management, dispute handling, reporting and settlement. The company says it applies 3D Secure and strong customer authentication, including automatic use of PSD2 exemptions, and network tokens for recurring billing. It also claims on-us processing and intelligent routing improve authorisation rates, though the page gives no measured rate. Our guides on 3D Secure and network tokenisation explain those terms.
On the bank side, Worldline runs processing and infrastructure: issuing and acquiring processing, account and instant payments (including a clearing and settlement mechanism, CSM), and digital services such as access control servers and wallet solutions. Its H1 2026 release lists these as the Financial Services line.
Products
Merchant Services
The H1 2026 release splits Merchant Services into three parts: SMB acquiring; Enterprise, covering self-service, mobility and retail; and Global Commerce, which includes Global Collect, aimed at travel and digital merchants selling internationally. GoPay is a separate online platform for enterprise and small and medium-sized e-commerce merchants.
One Commerce
Worldline announced One Commerce on 20 February 2026 as a unified commerce offer that joins online and in-store payments, reporting and reconciliation. It includes "à-la-carte" acquiring, where merchants choose their own multi-acquirer set-up, which can include Worldline's pan-European platform. A UK launch for enterprise merchants had been announced on 7 January 2026, with a consolidated back office, support for Worldline and third-party acquirers and local payment methods.
Financial Services
Financial Services covers issuing, acquiring processing, account and instant payments and digital services and fraud tooling. Its FY2024 results also mention "Bank Transfer by Worldline", an account-to-account payment service in 14 European countries, and a cloud-based instant payments product.
Terminals and SoftPOS
The company offers Tap on Mobile, a smartphone-based acceptance product, as part of its in-store portfolio. Our tap to pay explainer describes how SoftPOS works.
Developer experience and integrations
Worldline's Direct platform documentation describes a REST API reached through server SDKs and client SDKs.
| Layer | Detail (from the API developer guide) |
|---|---|
| Server SDKs | .NET, Java, Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby |
| Client SDKs | Android, JavaScript, Swift, Flutter, React Native, Objective-C |
| Integration methods | Hosted Checkout Page, Hosted Tokenization Page, server-to-server, mobile/client |
| Follow-up operations | Capture, cancel, refund, token management for card-on-file |
| Notifications | Webhooks |
In the hosted checkout flow, the merchant's server creates a session and receives a redirect URL, with a session lasting three hours by default. The customer pays on the hosted page, which may trigger a fraud check and a 3D Secure redirect; the customer returns to the merchant's site and the server fetches the result. The docs recommend webhooks as a fallback if the customer closes the browser, and recommend the Hosted Tokenization Page rather than an iframe. Merchants can pre-select payment methods, apply a custom template and limit payment attempts to between 1 and 10.
A "Single Acquiring API" is described on the acquiring page for partners that want one connection to all Worldline acquiring platforms.
Payment methods, currencies and coverage
The acquiring page says Worldline is a licensed acquirer across the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, with local acquiring in 30 markets. Listed methods include international cards, domestic schemes (Cartes Bancaires, girocard, Bancontact, Pago Bancomat), iDEAL, TWINT, BLIK, Swish, Wero, Klarna, Alipay+ and WeChat Pay. The page gives currency counts that differ between sections (85+ and 90+ acceptance currencies) and gives no date, so we do not rely on them. Extras include dynamic currency conversion and cash back.
Pricing model
Worldline does not publish a standard rate card on the pages we opened. Pricing is therefore agreed by contract. The company markets "à-la-carte" acquiring, but we did not find published fees. Ask for the full fee structure, scheme fees and terminal costs.
Company figures

In H1 2026 the company completed the sale of its Mobility and e-Transactional Services business to Magellan Partners Group, as well as two smaller disposals, according to the same release. "Fully pruned" figures exclude disposed activities, so they are not comparable with the FY 2024 published revenue, which included Mobility.

Click to Pay builds on EMVCo Secure Remote Commerce standards and stores tokenised credentials for later charges. The UCP handler lets a merchant configure payments once for use on AI shopping platforms that support the protocol.
Regulation in brief
Worldline's acquiring page lists payment institution licences in Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg, the UK and Switzerland. The UK authorisation from the Financial Conduct Authority was announced on 28 November 2023. On its compliance page, the company says it is treated as critical infrastructure, and that equensWorldline is supervised by the Dutch central bank and the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, and overseen in Belgium by the National Bank of Belgium. See how to check a financial licence.
Who it tends to suit
Worldline commonly suits large and mid-sized European merchants and international e-commerce firms that want acquiring, gateway and terminals from one European provider, and banks that outsource card or instant-payment processing. Merchants comparing European acquirers can read our Worldline vs Nexi comparison and the Nexi and Global Payments profiles; those preferring a single global platform often look at Adyen. Check which Worldline entity acquires in your country, how multi-acquirer routing is priced and which methods are live. The acquiring hub lists related profiles.
