Products and services

Payment (pay by bank)

The main product lets a shopper choose Trustly at checkout, pick their bank and approve the payment in their banking app or with an eID. Trustly says no separate app or wallet sign-up is needed and that returning users see their last-used account. It follows the account-to-account model covered in our open banking payments explainer. Trustly cites a 98% conversion rate and a 20-second average payment time on its product page; these are the company's own figures and we have not verified them.

Payout and Deposit

Payout sends instant withdrawals from a merchant to a customer's bank account, and Deposit handles instant bank transfers into an account the customer holds with the merchant. Trustly markets these to sectors where money moves in both directions, and its product pages name travel and licensed gaming operators among its business clients.

Recurring Payments and direct debit

Recurring Payments covers subscription and bill payments. Within the eurozone, Trustly's privacy policy names the group's French subsidiary SlimPay as joint controller for direct debit payments. For a comparison with a direct debit specialist, see our GoCardless profile.

Data Services and Azura

Data Services offers account verification, risk assessment and account creation using bank data. Trustly Azura is a newer feature that recognises returning shoppers at checkout using bank data.

Fees and pricing

Trustly does not publish merchant fees on the product and legal pages we checked on 3 November 2026. The product page says merchants can pay less per transaction by skipping intermediaries but gives no rates, and directs prospects to a contact sales form. Pricing is therefore quote-based.

Pricing item Status on trustly.com
Per-transaction fee Not published on the company website as of 3 November 2026
Payout fees Not published on the company website as of 3 November 2026
FX fees Not published; FX support is mentioned
Set-up or monthly fees Not published on the company website as of 3 November 2026

Because account-to-account payments do not run on card schemes, there is no interchange or scheme fee in the cost stack. Our explainer on how card payments work shows what those card costs look like for comparison.

Markets, currencies and payment methods

Trustly's product page lists these markets for Trustly Payment:

Region Markets
Europe UK, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia
Americas US, Canada, Brazil

The company's stats panel cites 33 markets in total, which includes markets for products other than Payment. In the US, Trustly, Inc. reported more than $17 billion processed over the RTP and FedNow instant payment rails, according to its October 2024 press release. Ecospend, its UK subsidiary, had processed £30 billion of UK tax payments to HMRC by the same date.

Trustly has offices in Sweden, the UK, Spain, Finland, Portugal, Malta, the US, Canada, Australia and Brazil, according to its privacy policy.

The Latvian host register lists the services Trustly Group AB may provide there, including payment initiation, account information, direct debits, credit transfers, money remittance and, from 22 October 2020, payment transactions covered by a credit line. Trustly describes itself as state-regulated in the US but does not list its US state licences or an NMLS ID on the pages we opened.

To check these yourself, search the FCA register by firm reference number and Finansinspektionen's company register by name, and use NMLS Consumer Access for US states. Our guide on how to check a financial licence covers each register.

Who it tends to suit

  • Merchants in Europe and North America whose customers bank with institutions that Trustly connects to and who are comfortable paying from a banking app.
  • Businesses that both collect and pay out funds, such as travel, marketplaces, trading platforms and licensed gaming operators.
  • Merchants with high-value payments, such as travel bookings, which Trustly positions as a use case for bank payments with small fees.
  • Subscription businesses in the eurozone that want direct debit alongside instant bank payments.

Merchants that want wallets or BNPL rather than bank payments may compare Trustly with PayPal or Klarna. The EU's PSD3 and PSR proposals are relevant to how open banking providers like Trustly operate in Europe.

What to check before signing up

  • Which Trustly entity will contract with you (Sweden, UK, France or US) and its authorisation on the relevant register.
  • A written quote covering payment, payout, FX and refund fees.
  • Bank coverage in each target market, and any payment limits (Trustly publishes UK payment limits separately).
  • How refunds and returns work, since bank payments do not have card chargebacks.
  • Settlement timing and supported currencies.
  • For regulated sectors such as gaming or trading, what customer due diligence Trustly will require from you.
