Trust Payments is a payment service provider that runs an online gateway (branded TRU Connect), its own card acquiring and point-of-sale tools for physical and mobile selling. What it emphasises is breadth: one supplier for web checkout, terminals, a Tap to Pay app and commerce software, packaged as "Converged Commerce".
It does not publish a rate card on the pages we reviewed on 3 November 2026, so cost is agreed per merchant. The company states that it is a principal member of Visa and Mastercard, which is the basis of its acquiring offer. For how gateway, PSP and acquirer roles differ, see our guide.

How the platform works
The company combines three layers. The first is the gateway, which receives a payment request from the merchant's site, app or terminal, applies fraud checks and 3-D Secure authentication, and passes the transaction on. The second is acquiring: Trust Payments offers a merchant account of its own, so the same provider submits card transactions to Visa, Mastercard and the other schemes and handles refunds and chargebacks. The third is a data and tools layer covering analytics, a merchant portal and commerce software.
Merchants who already have an acquirer can use the gateway on its own. For that route, the TRU Connect guide says you need an acquiring bank account and a merchant identification number, after which you receive a test site reference, a live site reference and a Portal login. Acquiring customers get fraud checking switched on by default.
On security, the company states AES-256 encryption, a minimum of TLS 1.2 in transit and quarterly vulnerability scans through the Qualys PCI platform. It also says hosted options reduce a merchant's PCI DSS scope because sensitive card data is not handled on the merchant's own systems. Our 3-D Secure explainer covers the authentication step that the gateway supports under EMV 3-D Secure.
Products
TRU Connect gateway
The online gateway supports hosted payment pages, a JavaScript library, a webservices API, mobile SDKs and shopping cart plug-ins. Supported cards include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB, with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Pay by Bank. Capture channels extend beyond the web page: IVR phone payments and payment links sent by WhatsApp, SMS or email are listed.
Acquiring
The acquiring page describes a merchant account and gateway through one integration. Accounts can be set up per currency or per sales channel, or combined. The company says it supports more than 100 currencies for acceptance and settles in 14 currencies, and that it offers 24/7 support. Regulated entities it names include a UK entity and a Malta entity.
Point of sale, Tap to Pay and commerce tools
The in-person side covers terminals (the page features an Ingenico Move 5000), a Tap to Pay app for Android that turns a phone into a card reader without extra hardware, QR code payments and unattended payments. Commerce software includes ePOS, inventory management, self-checkout, loyalty and engagement tools, digital signage and a shop builder. See tap to pay and SoftPOS explained for how phone-based acceptance works.
Payouts
Trust Payments announced a real-time payout option built on Visa Direct on 29 June 2020. The article gives insurance claims, money transfer and education bursaries as examples, and says Visa Direct payouts reach accounts in more than 130 countries, with fast-funds issuers required to make funds available within 30 minutes of approval (availability varies by institution and region). That is a 2020 statement, so check current coverage with the company.
Fraud and analytics
TRU Fraud Check is described as AI-powered fraud protection, and TRU Insights provides payment analytics. Neither page publishes detection rates.
Developer experience and integrations
The TRU Connect guide lays out a five-step path: sign up, configure an integration, add optional features, test, and go live. Add-ons it lists include custom styling, multiple languages, recurring subscriptions, tokenisation for stored details, dynamic currency conversion and TRU Fraud Check. A Test centre is provided for checking edge cases, and testing uses the sandbox-style test site reference.
| Route | Who it tends to fit |
|---|---|
| Payment Pages (hosted) | Merchants wanting the simplest set-up, including custom systems |
| JavaScript Library | Sites wanting an embedded checkout with 3-D Secure v1 and v2 built in |
| Webservices API | Teams building deeper or custom payment applications |
| Mobile SDKs | Android and iOS apps, with a drop-in or custom interface |
| Plug-ins | Cart platforms such as Adobe Commerce, Magento, BigCommerce and WooCommerce |
Merchants manage sites, users and transactions in Portal, a web application that the help centre says will replace the older MyST tool for TRU Connect users. Its listed features include access groups for users, background CSV and XLS exports, acquiring reports, a chargebacks page and mandatory multi-factor authentication. Developer reference documentation also exists on a separate docs site, which we could not read in full for this edition.
Payment methods, currencies and coverage
The gateway page lists wallets and alternative methods including iDEAL, Bancontact, Przelewy24, MyBank, EPS, Multibanco, MobilePay, Alipay, Paysera and paysafecard. The acquiring page also shows SEPA and Trustly. Our alternative payment methods guide explains these local options.
Currency figures differ by page. The gateway and acquiring pages cite more than 100 currencies, with settlement in 14, while the home page cites 160+ currencies and a single access point to 50+ global banks. The home page also reports 20,000+ customers in one section and 14k+ in another, and a partner network of over one million merchants. None of these figures carries a date, so use them as the company's own descriptions only. No country list is given on the acquiring page. A January 2023 announcement describes entry into Denmark by supplying acquiring to the gateway Freepay, which gives one concrete example of how it extends coverage through partners.
Pricing model
Trust Payments does not publish fees on the pages reviewed. The company says onboarding can take as little as three days and some underwriting checks are completed within 48 hours. It says settlement timing is flexible and that refunds sent through Visa Direct can arrive in about two hours. Fees, reserves and settlement terms are therefore set in the merchant agreement; asking for the full schedule, including scheme fees and any gateway-only charge, is sensible. For merchants in sectors that acquirers treat cautiously, see high-risk merchant accounts explained.
Recent launches
| Date | Item |

| 30 Jul 2025 | Agreement with Orchestr, a payment orchestration platform, to supply pan-European acquiring alongside Orchestr's own gateway |
The home page also listed blog posts dated September and October 2026 on topics such as cart abandonment and social engineering fraud; these are educational rather than product launches, and we have not summarised them.
Regulation in brief
The home page states that TrustUK Payments Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Regulations 2017, and that Trust Payments (Malta) Limited is regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority for payment services. Check the exact entity named in your merchant agreement against the relevant register; our guide on how to check a financial licence explains how. We did not open a regulator register for this edition.
Who it tends to suit
Trust Payments may suit merchants that sell both online and in person and want a single provider for gateway, acquiring and terminals, such as retail, hospitality and leisure operators. Platforms and orchestration providers also use its acquiring as a back end, as the Orchestr and Freepay announcements show. Teams wanting self-serve published pricing will need to request quotes. Comparable providers include Worldpay, Checkout.com and Adyen, and the gateways hub lists more.
