Payoneer is a cross-border payments platform that lets small and mid-sized businesses, particularly in emerging markets, receive money from marketplaces and clients abroad, hold it in several currencies and withdraw it to local bank accounts. How the platform works

At the core is a Payoneer account that can hold balances in several currencies. Money comes in through a few routes:

  • Receiving accounts. A business gets local-currency account details so a payer can send a domestic bank transfer, which Payoneer then credits to the balance.
  • Marketplace and enterprise payouts. Platforms such as Etsy pay sellers into Payoneer, where they can hold funds or withdraw locally. Enterprise payout volume was $6.6bn in Q2 2026.
  • Payment requests and Checkout. Business clients can pay an invoice by card, bank debit or, in the US, PayPal, and online stores can accept payments through Payoneer Checkout.

Once funds are in the account, the business can convert currencies, pay suppliers or other Payoneer users, spend with a Mastercard, or withdraw to a bank account. Withdrawals run over Payoneer's partner network to local banks. Customer balances are held through the group's licensed entities in each region (see Regulation in brief).

Revenue comes from two sources: fees on these flows and interest earned on customer balances. In Q2 2026, revenue excluding interest income was $222.2m and interest income was $52.1m, so roughly a fifth of revenue came from interest. Greater China was the largest revenue region that quarter at $93.2m, followed by Europe, Middle East and Africa at $68.3m.

Products

Payoneer account and receiving accounts

The multi-currency account, local receiving details and balance management. Payments from another Payoneer user's balance are free, according to the fees page (updated 1 January 2026).

Marketplace and enterprise payouts

Payoneer is a payout partner for marketplaces. In September 2026 it renewed its Etsy agreement through 2029; Etsy sellers in 16 markets can receive earnings, withdraw to local banks and use more than 70 currencies. Marketplace SMB volume was $12.4bn in Q2 2026.

B2B payments

Accounts payable and receivable flows between businesses. B2B SMB revenue was $69m in Q2 2026, up 18%, and B2B volume grew 48% to $4.3bn.

Checkout

Payoneer's merchant acceptance product, previously called Merchant Services. It offers plugins for WooCommerce, Shopify and Magento, and the company partnered with Stripe in 2025 to extend it. Checkout volume was $332m in Q2 2026, up 52%.

Cards

Payoneer issues Mastercard products: a Corporate Purchasing Mastercard issued by First Century Bank, N.A., and a Business Premium Debit Mastercard issued from Ireland by Payoneer Europe Limited. It renewed its long-term Mastercard agreement for multi-currency cards in July 2025.

Employer of record, agent of record and contractor management services, provided through group company Skuad. In January 2026 Payoneer acquired Boundless for $13m plus up to $4m in earn-out to expand this line.

Capital

Capital advances to customers, which appear as capital advance income in Payoneer's financial statements.

Developer experience and integrations

Payoneer's developer page describes three APIs:

API What it covers
Mass Payout API Payee registration, account approval, sending payouts and funding
Mass Payout and Services API Adds collections, multi-currency accounts, withdrawals, billing and US tax forms (1042, 1099, W-8, W-9)
Checkout API Accepting and managing ecommerce payments

The page says Payoneer is a technology partner to thousands of organisations and offers customer care in 22 languages. It does not list SDKs, sandbox details or authentication methods, and the detailed Mass Payout documentation did not load when we tried it on 3 November 2026. For non-developers, the ecommerce plugins and marketplace integrations (eBay is named on Payoneer's integration page) are the main connection points.

Regulation in brief

Payoneer says on its licences page that it holds licences or registrations in the US (including FinCEN registration and state licences where required), the EEA through Ireland, the UK, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, India and Singapore. In 2026 it added a licence in Israel and a Bank of Canada registration. Our guide on how to check a financial licence explains how to confirm these on public registers.

Who it tends to suit

  • Sellers on global marketplaces who need to receive payouts in several currencies and withdraw locally, especially outside the US and Europe.
  • Freelancers and service exporters billing foreign clients by payment request.
  • Marketplaces and enterprises that pay large numbers of sellers or contractors across borders through an API.
  • Small B2B importers and exporters paying suppliers abroad.

Businesses comparing multi-currency accounts often also look at Wise, Airwallex and PayPal; our Wise alternatives page and cross-border hub cover more options.
