emerchantpay is a payment service provider and acquirer that offers in-house and global card acquiring, a payment gateway with a hosted payment form, shopping-cart plugins, and risk and reporting tools for online and in-store merchants. Its published contract uses interchange-plus pricing, and its UK entity is an e-money institution supervised by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Much of the company's site is light on detail, so this profile leans on its API documentation, its February 2026 merchant terms and its news posts. Everything is as read on 3 November 2026, and anything the company does not publish is marked as such.

How the platform works
emerchantpay combines the acquirer and gateway roles. The acquiring page describes in-house and global merchant acquiring with dedicated support and lists settlement in more than 20 currencies (the page's own descriptions say 25+ in one place and 20+ in another, so treat the figure as approximate). A merchant sends payments through the gateway, which handles authorisation, 3-D Secure, tokenisation and reconciliation. For how these roles fit together, see gateway, PSP and acquirer explained and how card payments work.
The gateway API documentation offers more detail. Calls are HTTP POST requests with Basic Authentication, parameters are sent as XML, and responses come back as XML or JSON, with a GraphQL interface for some services. Payment calls are synchronous except for 3-D Secure payments. There are separate staging and production environments, and 3-D Secure version 1 has been decommissioned in favour of version 2 with frictionless and challenge flows (see 3D Secure explained).
Products
Acquiring and gateway
The gateway supports card authorisation and sale transactions, recurring payments, refunds, voids, partial reversals, pre-authorisations with incremental authorisations, split payments and pay-by-link. Alternative payment methods in the documentation include digital wallets, vouchers, online banking, SEPA Direct Debit, cash payments, gift cards, invoices and crypto. Payouts to banks, mobile and wallets are listed, as are Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Web Payment Form
The Web Payment Form (WPF) is a hosted payment page. The merchant creates a session through the API, receives a unique redirect URL and sends the customer there. It can also be shown inside an iFrame for a more uniform checkout, though some methods, such as Boleto, PIX, iDEAL and OXXO, require a full-page redirect.
Tokenisation and routing
The API documents tokenise, detokenise, update, validate and delete operations, with tokens usable in processing and WPF requests, and a CSV import and export of external tokens. A Smart Routing API and a KYC API are also listed, though the pages we read do not explain how routing decisions are made.
Risk, reporting and in-person
The site lists risk and fraud management and payments reporting alongside acquiring, plus a virtual terminal for payment links and mail-order or telephone-order payments without coding. In December 2023 emerchantpay announced a SoftPOS partnership with Rubean AG covering the UK and Europe (see tap to pay and SoftPOS explained).
Developer experience and integrations
SDKs are listed for PHP (installed with Composer), Node.js (genesis.js), Java (genesis_java) and Ruby, plus plain cURL. Shopping-cart plugins are listed for Adobe Commerce (Magento 2), PrestaShop, Shopify and WooCommerce, with the plugin list noted as changing over time. Integration routes are the hosted WPF, a server-to-server custom interface, client-side encryption and no-code tools. The gateway-focused docs and the public staging environment make testing possible before going live.

Pricing model
emerchantpay does not publish a rate card. Its merchant terms (February 2026 version) describe an interchange-plus structure with three parts: interchange, card scheme fees and a processing service fee. The terms list charge types for transactions, authorisations, refunds, chargeback handling, 3-D Secure and non-3-D Secure transactions, currency conversion, settlement, wire transfers, payouts, pay-by-link and MOTO, along with set-up and maintenance fees. Specific rates sit in a separate financial schedule that is agreed per merchant and not public. Fees are quoted excluding VAT.
Merchants in higher-risk categories often negotiate reserves and pricing separately; see high-risk merchant accounts explained.
Recent launches
- 28 October 2026: emerchantpay reported that its processing volume in the third quarter of 2026 grew 25.7% year on year. The post credits merchant wins, customer expansion and product investment, and gives no absolute volume.
- 19 May 2026: Visa Instalments introduced for UK merchants, offering instalment payments at checkout. The page does not detail eligibility or fees.
Earlier items include a TrueLayer partnership for open banking payments in the UK and Europe (5 June 2024; see TrueLayer), an expansion of the Novalnet partnership to the US (29 August 2024), a partnership with Visa Acceptance Solutions on global acquiring and platform integrations (31 October 2024) and an alliance with Brazil-based FitBank for Latin America (12 March 2024).
Regulation in brief
The merchant terms state that emerchantpay Ltd is an electronic money institution under the prudential supervision of the Financial Conduct Authority. The company's certifications page also refers to PCI DSS compliance and an ISO 9001 certification. The pages we opened do not list other regulated entities, and we did not open the FCA register for this edition. See how to check a financial licence and the e-money institutions explainer.
Who it tends to suit
emerchantpay is commonly used by online merchants that want acquiring and a gateway from one provider, including those in gaming and digital goods. Merchants comparing European acquirer-PSPs may look at payabl., covered in payabl. vs emerchantpay, or ECOMMPAY. Our emerchantpay alternatives page lists others, and the gateways hub has related coverage.
